- 1). Rub the floor finish with fine grit sand paper (#00) until the stain is gone, if the floor finish is in good shape. Rub some paste wax onto the spot and buff with a clean cloth.
- 2). Remove any remaining finish, if it is not good enough to have protected the wood from the ink. Clean the area with mineral spirits and steel wool (#2.) Rinse well and dry immediately with a clean cloth.
- 3). Clean the area with white vinegar and allow it to sit for about five minutes. Rinse well and dry immediately with a clean cloth.
- 4). Sand the area with fine grit sand paper in the direction of the wood grain until the stain is gone, but do not strip the finish. Lighten the pressure as you get 3 to 4 inches out, so that the edges blend into the surrounding floor. Vacuum away all wood dust and clean the floor off, then wax and polish the area.
- 5). Remove any remaining stain by using oxalic acid, also sold as wood bleach. Mix the bleach crystals with hot water according to directions and apply to the floor with a stiff bristled brush or cloth. Leave the solution sit for 10 minutes to an hour before rinsing well and drying with a clean cloth.
- 6). Apply a second round of oxalic acid if there is any remaining stain.
- 7). Sand any remaining stained areas with #80 to 120 grit sandpaper in the direction of the wood. Vacuum away any dust and rub the spot down to remove any residue. Rub the spot with steel wool (#0) before applying a coat of finish and waxing the spot after it dries.
