- 1). Measure and cut each wooden piece into the necessary lengths. Cut the three 2-inch-by-4-inch boards into two pieces measuring 2 feet long, two pieces measuring 3 feet long and two more pieces measuring 5 feet long. All ends should be flat and measured with a carpenter's tool to create a 90-degree angle with the length edge of each piece.
- 2). Measure and cut the plywood or OSB into two pieces, one that measures 2 feet by 5 feet and another that measures 2 feet by 3 feet. These two pieces will be placed together at the corner to construct the bench top. If you are especially handy, cut the plywood or OSB into one larger L-shaped piece that will measure 5 feet long along the outer corner, 3 feet in both directions along the inner corner, and 2 feet in width along the ends.
- 3). Construct the kitchen corner bench's support frame before installing the bench or applying the bench top. Start with one of the 2-foot-long pieces and attach a 3-foot-long piece to one end of the 2-foot-long piece and a 5-foot-long piece to the other end; repeat this for the second 2-foot-long piece.
- 4). Lay these nailed-together pieces flat on the floor and butt together to complete a solid shape, rather than two open-ended pieces. The two pieces should now fit together in the shape of an L. Cover the top of the piece with the plywood or OSB boards by driving nails or screws down through the top of the plywood or OSB and into the frame pieces. Attach nails or screws approximately 6 inches apart along the entire diameter of the bench top.
- 5). Cut three or more wooden posts to a height of approximately 2 feet; the height will depend on how high you want the bench to sit. Nail down through the plywood or OSB again and into the posts. Attach the posts at outer corners for best support; remember that the larger outside edge of the L-shaped bench top will be butted into the kitchen corner.
- 6). Install the corner bench into the kitchen; the support legs will hold the bench steady while you climb underneath and drive nails or hammers through the support beams and into the kitchen wall. Use a stud finder to attach the bench more securely to wall studs.
- 7). Fill nail and screw holes with wood putty, sand to remove rough spots and round out rough edges and then wipe clean with a tack cloth. Paint, stain or varnish the bench as desired and allow to dry overnight within the ventilated kitchen before using.
