- 1). Dent the hole so that it's just a little bit wider using a hammer. This will make patching the hole quicker and easier.
- 2). Wipe down the dent you made over the hole using a cloth. Remove all debris.
- 3). Wet a sponge and run it over the dent and hole to moisten it. The are should not be soaked.
- 4). Put some vinyl spackling compound onto a putty knife and apply it to the dent and hole in the drywall. Use the putty knife to make the compound even with the wall.
- 5). Wait for the compound to dry for at least a day. Then, you're ready to paint over it to match the color of the drywall.
