I¡¯m Tracy Tenner with Better Behavior Dog Training at Extra Care Animal Hospital in Davie, Florida. I am here at the Tri County Humane Society in Boca Raton, Florida where I have volunteered as a trainer and a behaviorist. We are here today to help you learn how to pick the perfect pet for you and your family. So if you are ready, let¡¯s get started. Once you formed your initial impressions of each dog, it is time to spend time with them individually. This is a very important part of choosing the correct animal because that is the way you are going to know whether or not you feel comfortable with that particular pet. As you spend time with each of the pets that you have selected, remember to keep an open heart and open mind. Remember your research. Remember what you learned about breed¡¯s specific generalities. Most importantly listen to your heart. In your heart of hearts, do you feel that this might be the right pet for your family? Is it friendly? Is it warm? Is it affectionate? Is it outgoing? And by the way this may not be the best time to have your children with you because children have a tendency to make snap decisions. This is a point in time for you and your immediate family to spend time with individual dogs and see which ones you feel will fit into your home. Remember to look not only for breed type and standards but for dogs you like ecstatically as well as dogs that are going to fit into your home. Are they too hyper? Are they too lethargic? Are they too bouncy? Are they too hairy? There are so many things to consider when you are looking at these individual dogs that you want to spend enough time with each of them to really get a good idea as to whether or not they are going to fit into your family.
