- 1). Cut the cork flooring material into strips or squares with a utility knife fitted with a sharp, new blade. Cut firmly and, if it helps, use a straight edge such as metal rule as a guide. This may not be necessary if you're removing cork floor tiles.
- 2). Insert the wide scraper into the cuts or into the cork floor tile edges and push it under the flooring. Scrape off the cork flooring material with a firm, pushing action. The cork flooring will come away in uneven chunks. Some areas might prove difficult to remove with a scraper. For stubborn spots, use a hammer and chisel to chip off the remaining cork. Take care not to chip the floor underneath the cork.
- 3). Remove the cork flooring adhesive with a hot air gun and scraper. Plug in the hot air gun and wait a few minutes for it to warm up. Use the hot air gun to soften and loosen the old floor adhesive and then scrape it off with a scraper. Hot air guns can only treat one relatively small area at a time, so move around the floor section by section to remove all the old adhesive.
- 4). Clean off any remaining floor adhesive residue with a scrubbing pad dipped in cleaning solvent or adhesive remover.
