- 1). Unpack the pendulum clock, always keeping it in the upright position. Undue movement from side to side can cause the weights to shift and put pressure on the internal mechanisms, making it more difficult to reset.
- 2). Open the pendulum clock's glass door if applicable and turn the minute hand gently in a clockwise direction until the current time is displayed. Do not turn the hour hand, as it may cause the minute hand to fall out of sync. If the clock has a second hand, do not turn it either, for the same reason.
- 3). Grasp the pendulum itself and gently pull it to the right about 1/2 inch. Hold it there for a few seconds and then release. Listen for the movements to begin ticking. If the movements do not make a ticking sound, wait just over an hour and reset the clock to the current time, using the hour hand. Pull the pendulum to the right about 1 full inch and listen again for the movements to tick.
- 4). Close the glass door once the clock ticks and the pendulum swings freely back and forth. If the pendulum stops again, wait another hour and reset the time once more, using the hour hand. Pull the pendulum to the right about 1 1/2 inches and close the glass door.
