- 1). Measure the inside of the window frame. This is where you want to mount the pleated shade, as opposed to mounting it in front of the window.
- 2). Place the closed pleated shade in front of you with the pull string and mechanism side on your left. Begin at the left edge of the shade and measure toward the right side. Mark the headrail and shades at the desired width, which should be the measured width minus at least half an inch.
- 3). Slide the head rail and foot rail to the left, exposing the pleated shades along the right-hand side. Continue to slide the head and foot rail until they pass the desired-width mark by one to two inches.
- 4). Hold the pleated edge tight in your hand and cut the pleats to width with the scissors. This can be done in one cut.
- 5). Slide the head rail and foot rail back over the pleats. Line the left edge of the pleats with the left edge of the head and foot rails.
- 6). Cut the head rail and foot rail to size with the metal cutters. This should be done with one swift cut to each side and one to two cuts to the top and bottom of the rails.
- 7). Mount the brackets using a drill to insert the screws, and hang the pleated shades.
