How to Measure the Volume of a Concrete Slab

    • 1). Decide on the tape measure. The most convenient kind is the ones that locks into place. However, if you have a tape measure that does not have this feature, you can ask a friend to hold the other side. Of course, this depends on the size of the concrete slab. If it is in arms length, you can measure the slab by yourself. If it is long and wide, the other tape measure will come in handy.

    • 2). Measure the concrete slab. Take your tape measure, place one end on the top, and move it to the other side. This is the length of the slab. Write down the number on a piece of paper. Move your tape measure to the side of your concrete slab. Starting from the top, measure down to the bottom or base of the slab. This is the height. Write down that number as well. Then move your tape measure to the smallest side and measure right to left. This will give you the width of the slab. Again, write down that number.

    • 3). Find the volume of the concrete slab. The formula for volume is length times width times height. For example, let's say the measurements for your concrete slab are 10 inches long, 5 inches wide and 20 inches high. The volume will then be 10 times 5 time 20, which equals 1,000 cubic inches.
