- 1). Close your curtains, blinds or shutters during the sunniest parts of the day to protect the merbau flooring from damaging ultraviolet rays. Be aware that prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause the color of your flooring to fade over time.
- 2). Catch dirt and dust particles before they have a chance to scratch the surface of your merbau flooring. Place doormats and rugs at each entrance to collect dirt particles tracked in on the bottoms of shoes. Shake out the doormats and rugs one to two times per week.
- 3). Go over your merbau flooring with a fine-bristled nylon broom or cotton dust mop once or twice a week, as needed, to collect any dust or dirt particles that were not caught by the doormats or rugs.
- 4). Blot spills from merbau flooring with a soft cloth to prevent them from discoloring the wood. Dampen the cloth in warm, soapy water, if necessary, to remove stubborn, sticky spills.
- 5). Clean the flooring once a week with a gentle cleaner that has been specially formulated for hardwood floors. Follow the use instructions on the floor cleaning product to avoid damaging the merbau wood.
