- 1). Click "Start," type "Device Manager" in the "Search" box and press "Enter."
- 2). Look for red exclamation points near any of your system hardware options. This indicates issues with your hardware.
- 3). Right click "Start" and select "Explore."
- 4). Right click the drive containing your software. Select "Properties," click the "Tools" menu and click "Check Now" under "Error Checking."
- 5). Press "Start" to scan your drive for issues.
