- 1). Open the "Start" menu and type "Command Prompt." Click "Command Prompt" from the result list.
- 2). Type "shutdown -i" to open an interactive shutdown dialog box.
- 3). Click "Add" to the right of the "Computers" listbox. Enter the network name or IP of the computer you would like to shut down, such "\\LivingRoomPC" or "\\192.168.123.43," and click "OK."
- 4). Select "Shutdown" from the drop-down dialog below "What do you want these computers to do" label.
- 5). Check "Warn users of the action" if you would like a notification message to appear on the remote computer, then type the number of seconds the warning should appear in the field below the warning checkbox.
- 6). Select a reason for the shutdown from the drop-down list of reasons, then type any additional information in the Comment box below.
- 7). Click "OK." The remote system will now restart.
