- Lack of compatibility could cause installation problems with the Kindle for PC software. Before you attempt an installation, verify that your computer meets the requirements to install the software. Your computer should be running Windows 7, Windows Vista or Windows XP, if you have service pack 2 or greater. You also need an Internet connection to register the software through your Amazon account. If your computer does not meet the compatibility requirements, the installation won't work correctly.
- When downloading the software, confirm that you are on the correct Amazon web page. Click "Save" when prompted to download, rather than "Cancel" or "Run," so that the file saves on your hard drive. The file should end in .exe, meaning that it's an executable file that will install the software. If the download does not complete, or stops during the download, delete the partially downloaded file from your computer and start again.
- If you're able to open the Kindle for PC software, you can run troubleshooting within the software to determine the problem. To access troubleshooting, click "Help" and then "Check for Problems." The program runs a troubleshooting session and informs you if there are any issues that occurred during the installation. The program then gives you instructions to remedy the problem.
