How to Make a Bootable Windows Flashdrive

    • 1). Download ImgBurn. Click on the installation link and follow the onscreen instructions to install it on your computer. If you downloaded Windows 7 from the Microsoft website skip to Step 4.

    • 2). Insert the Windows 7 Setup DVD into your CD/DVD drive on your computer. Close the Auto Run window. Open ImgBurn by clicking the icon on your desktop or through the Start menu.

    • 3). Click "Create Image File From Disk." Change the destination location to your desktop. Click the "Create Image" button at the bottom left and ImgBurn will create the ISO file to be used to make the bootable Windows flash drive. This process will take a few minutes.

    • 4). Download the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool. Click on the installation link and follow the onscreen instructions to install it to your computer.

    • 5). Choose the ISO file you just created. You can click "Browse" to find the file. Click "Next". Click the "USB Device" button at the bottom of the window and click "Next".

    • 6). Verify the correct USB device is listed and click "Begin Copying". If there is any data on the flash drive, you will be asked to erase it by clicking the "Erase USB Device" button. Make sure you back-up the data currently on the flash drive before you click the Erase button. Click "Yes" to continue. This process will take 10 to 15 minutes to complete. When it is finished, you will get a confirmation window. You can then eject the flash drive and close the window by clicking the "X" in the upper right corner.
