- 1). Sand the surface of basic plastic cabinet pulls with 100-grit sandpaper. This will help your decorative materials adhere to them better. Wipe down the cabinet pulls with a tack cloth to remove the dust, and set them aside.
- 2). Rinse off your decorative materials, such as rocks, buttons and ceramic tiles, with water and a dab of dish detergent. Pat them all dry with a paper towel.
- 3). Turn over the decorative materials, and sand down their undersides with 100-grit sandpaper so that the glue sticks to them better. Wipe them down with a tack cloth to remove the dust from sanding.
- 4). Add a dab of glue to the surface of each basic plastic knob and onto the back of your decorative item. Press the decorative piece, such as a button or tile, to the plastic knob, and hold in place. Alternatively, if you use polymer clay, roll a thin layer onto the surface of the knob, wrapping it around the knob to hold it in place. Sculpt more decorative pieces such as grapes or geometric shapes out of more pieces of clay, and add them to the knob.
- 5). Allow the knobs with glue on them to dry thoroughly at least for four hours. Place the knobs covered in clay in the oven at 300 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes.
