How to Work an Alpha 580 Cash Register

    Program the Register

    • 1). Press and hold down the "Clear" key on the cash register as you simultaneously plug in the power cord for the register.

    • 2). Take the manager's key that came with the register and insert it into the key slot. Turn the key to the "PRG" (program) position.

    • 3). Set the date on your cash register. To do this press the "1" key. Press the "Qty/Time" key. Press the following sequence of numbers, "19990124." Save the date setting by pressing the button that is labeled, "Amt Tend/Total."

    • 4). Set the time on your cash register. This is done by pressing the "2" key. Press the "Qty/Time" key. Enter the time according to military standards. For example, if the time is 11:45am, you will press "1145." If the time is 9:30AM, press "0930." If the time is 10:15pm, press "2215." Press the "Amt Tend/Total" key to save your time settings.

    • 5). Program the amount of tax that should be automatically added to each transaction. To do this, press "1." Press the key that is labeled "PO/-%." Enter the amount of tax followed by three zeros. For example, if the tax rate is 7.5 percent, you will press "75000." If the tax rate is 6 percent, you will press "60000." Press the "Amt Tend/Total" key to save your tax rate.

    Use the Register

    • 1). Turn the manager's key to the "REG" (register) position.

    • 2). Type the amount for the item being purchased. For example, if the item cost $8, you will type "800." Press the "ST/W/Tax" key. This will generate the total amount of the sale including tax.

    • 3). Enter the amount of money the customer gives you. For example, if the customer gives you $8, enter "800." If the customer gives you $20, enter "2000."

    • 4). Press the "Amt Tend/Total" to determine the amount of change that should be given back to the customer.
