- 1). Go to the Start menu on the bottom left-hand of the screen and left click. In the run menu or search box for newer versions of Windows, type "MSCONFIG."
- 2). Click on the "Start Up" tab. Look through all the programs that are in the list. Almost everything in this can be unselected but you'll probably just want to unselect programs that you are familiar with. This list is all of the programs that load while your computer boots and you can always start them manually after the computer is booted. Unselect the ones you want and click "Apply" and then "Ok."
- 3). Restart your computer and notice the time difference. If you have any problems booting up or one of your programs doesn't work the way you want, re check the boxes you unchecked until you find a balance of what you want to load and the time it takes your computer to boot.
