- RS-232, or serial connector and USB, or universal serial bus, both belong to the serial communication port family. Their main purpose is to connect peripherals such as digital cameras, printers and monitors to computers with serial ports.
- RS-232 serial ports can be accessed in two different ways: either directly by an application, or via a device driver supplied by the operating system or a third party developer. Communication with USB ports, on the other hand, is always done via a device driver because of its extensive protocol requirements.
- The USB to Serial RS-232 Adapter combines the two serial connectors together and provides a data transfer rate of up to 230Kbps. This adapter instantly allows users to enjoy connectivity with serial devices, such as a modem, digital camera and printer. It is also PC- and Mac-compatible.
