- 1). Look for a long metal bar attached to the top of the window or a rotating lever near the bottom. These are the parts used to open and close the window and provide ventilation.
- 2). Pull the metal bar downward using a hooked pole, if necessary. The first position opens the window for ventilation without letting in rain. Spin the lever in a circular motion to start cranking the window open.
- 3). Pull the bar down as far as it will go to fully open the window. Crank-operated windows stop when the window reaches its widest position. Reverse these instructions to close the window.
