- 1). Measure the height of either of the cabinets. Measure the thickness of the roof and base of the cabinet and subtract it from the height. Label this result “A.” Measure the distance between the cabinets. Make all of your measurement in inches.
- 2). Measure the width of the round end of the shelf clips in inches. Measure the height, in inches, of the tallest bottle that you want to store on the spice rack. Add ¾ inch to the result. Add the width of the shelf clip to this result. Label this final result of this as “B.” Measure the width of the widest bottle you plan to store as well.
- 3). Divide A by B. The result of this will be the maximum number of shelves that you can fit between the cabinets.
- 4). Cut shelves for the spice rack out of ¾-inch-thick oak veneer plywood. Use a table saw for these cuts. Make these shelves as long as the distance between the cabinets. Make them at least as wide as the widest bottle.
- 5). Make a pencil mark at the back of the cabinet on the right. Place the mark on the left wall, as close to the bottom of the cabinet as possible. Place another mark on the inside of the cabinet, as far from the rear as the spice rack shelves are wide.
- 6). Measure B inches above these marks. Make another pair of marks at this level. Repeat this process until you have marked out the positions for each shelf. Make marks on the right wall of the left cabinet in the same fashion.
- 7). Stain or varnish the shelves as desired. This will match their look to the look of your cabinets.
- 8). Drill out a hole where you placed each mark. Make each hole the same width as the shelf clips. Insert the round ends of the clips into these holes. There should be four clips at each level. Two in the right-hand cabinet and two in the left-hand cabinet. Rest a shelf on the clips at each level.
