- 1). Widen cracks in the cement that are less than a half inch wide, using a half-inch chisel with a hammer. Be sure to wear safety goggles.
- 2). Brush any bits of concrete out of the cracks with a wire brush. If hard-to-reach debris is in a crack, vacuum it out with a shop vac.
- 3). Pour water into a given crack to dampen it slightly.
- 4). Mix the hydraulic cement. Follow the instructions on the package carefully for mixing the dry cement with water. The proper ratio of water to cement will be listed on the package.
- 5). Pour the hydraulic cement into the prepared crack and smooth it over with a putty knife to make the patch level with the current surface. The cement will expand and dry within 24 hours depending on the type of hydraulic cement you purchased.
