- 1). Plug the laptop-to-TV cable into the headphone jack and appropriate video output (VGA, S-Video, DVI or HDMI) on your laptop.
- 2). Plug the other end of the cable into the appropriate audio/video input on your television. If you have an older TV that doesn't even have an S-Video input, you can find an S-Video-to-composite video cable in many electronics stores.
- 3). Press the "Input" button on your television or TV remote and select the input that you plugged your computer into. Some computers will automatically detect the new display; if yours doesn't, move on to Step 4.
- 4). Look for the monitor display "Function"/"F" key on your computer that has a picture of a TV monitor on it. Hold the "Fn" key and press the monitor display key until you reach the "TV Out" option.
If your computer doesn't have a monitor display key, you can send the display signal to your television by right-clicking an empty area of your desktop and selecting "Graphics Properties," "Graphics Options," or "Display Properties." Find the "Display Settings" drop-down menu and select "TV" or "External Display."
If you are still having problems finding the display options, look for the video card icon in your desktop taskbar. Double-click it to expand the options, and search for the display settings. Follow the above steps to connect to your TV. - 5). Find and play the video that you want to watch on your television. For the highest-quality display, choose "Full Screen Mode" on your media player.
