- 1). Cover the end of the paper towel roll securely with duct tape. Be certain that there are no open holes at the edges.
- 2). Cut a 1/4-inch hole in the center of the duct tape with a utility knife.
- 3). Insert the tip of the utility lighter through the hole into the paper towel roll until the handle of the lighter is pressed firmly against the duct tape.
- 4). Place the nozzle of the aerosol hairspray into the open end of the paper towel roll and press down for two seconds. The goal is not to soak the roll but to provide your launcher with a minimal amount of fuel.
- 5). Place the ping-pong ball in the open end of the paper towel roll immediately following the hairspray. Only allow the ball to slip about a third of the way down the roll. It should not rest against the igniter.
- 6). Grip the paper towel roll firmly.
- 7). Aim the ping-pong ball launcher away from all humans, animals and breakable property and ignite the utility lighter. It may take a few clicks to get the lighter to work because of a lack of a oxygen inside the tube. Once the igniter lights, the fuel inside the tube will explode and the force will propel the ping-pong ball out of the tube and toward your target.
