- 1). Use 40-grit sandpaper to quickly remove the glaze from the surface of the porcelain. Use medium and then fine-grit sandpaper to obtain a soft surface. The area needs to be completely glaze-free before you can apply a new glaze.
- 2). Use a wet sponge to clean the dust and debris from the surface of the porcelain object.
- 3). Allow the porcelain piece to dry before you apply the new colored glaze with a soft paintbrush. Leave the glaze to dry overnight.
- 4). Fire the porcelain piece in an electric kiln. The firing temperatures for porcelain should be at least 2,100 degrees or cone 8. The glazes you use may require a certain firing temperature, so check the labels on the glazes you buy. If you don't have access to a kiln, search for a pottery studio that fires pieces.
