Sea Shell Crafts for Sunday School

    Shell Angel Ornament

    • Gather two clamshells, one mollusk shell, one small wooden ball, scraps of lace or trim, one cotton ball, one plastic gold ring, a small piece of ribbon, and a hot glue gun. Glue lace around the bottom edge and the top of the mollusk to create a dress. Glue a clamshell to each side of the mollusk shell so that the insides are facing the front; these are the wings. For the head, glue the wooden ball to the top center of the mollusk shell. Arrange and glue the cotton ball on top for hair, and add the gold ring to the top of that. Loop the ribbon and glue the ends to the back of the clamshells. This gives Sunday school students a beautiful angel to hang on the Christmas tree. Or, if you make the craft at any other time of year, the children can hang it over their beds to watch over them as they sleep.

    Seashell Cross

This simple craft only requires craft sticks or tongue depressors, glue and small seashells. Glue two sticks together to form a cross. Cover the front of the sticks with glue and add an assortment of seashells to achieve a colorful, artistic look. Allow the glue to dry for a few minutes, and the cross is finished. An additional option is to use raffia or other durable string to glue to each side of the cross so that it can be hung. The cross serves as decoration to hang on the wall, as a Christmas ornament, or as a gift.

    Advent Wreath

    • Make advent wreaths so that the Sunday school children can celebrate Advent at home. Traditionally, there are five candles, one being lit on each of the four Sundays preceding Christmas, and one on Christmas Eve. To create a child's version, gather cardboard, red felt, strips of velcro, glue, scissors, sturdy string and a variety of seashells. Cut the cardboard into a doughnut shape; this is the foundation of the wreath. Glue shells onto the wreath until the desired effect is achieved, and glue a strip of velcro to the bottom center of the wreath. Cut the felt into the shape of a small candle, which the children will stick to the velcro each Sunday to symbolize the lighting of a candle. Glue the string to the back of the wreath so that it can be hung.

    Bible Verse Frame

    • This craft idea is simple and lasting. Collect a wooden picture frame, shells, glue and Bible verses printed on paper the size of the picture frame. Glue shells around the four sides of the frame and insert the Bible verse into the frame. Allow children to personalize the craft by allowing each of them to pick their favorite Bible verse to use. If the children are old enough, they can write the verse themselves rather than printing it, which makes for a sweet gift.
