- 1). Cut the fabric of your choice into squares. Each square, which will momentarily become a triangle, ends up being one petal. If you want six petals, therefore, you should cut six squares of fabric. Start with squares of approximately 3-by-3 inches. If this flower is too large or too small, you can adjust the size of the squares for the next one.
- 2). Fold each fabric square diagonally in half to create a triangle. The side of the fabric that you wish to show in the flower should be on the outside of this triangle.
- 3). Thread your needle with thread that matches the fabric you are using. Knot the end of the thread.
- 4). Begin sewing the triangle at one of the corners where the open portion meets the folded side. Sew along both sides of the open portion of the folded triangle. In other words, sew the triangle shut.
- 5). Pull the thread gently but firmly to gather the triangle. It should scrunch up, taking on the shape of a petal. Continuing with the same piece of thread, sew another triangle shut and scrunch it up. Repeat this process for each triangle to create all of the petals for you flower.
- 6). Sew the bases of the first and last petals together to secure the flower.
