- 1). Clean all aluminum storm windows thoroughly. Use soapy water and a heavy-duty scrub brush. Rinse away all dirt and debris. Let dry.
- 2). Place aluminum storm windows on drop cloths. Apply metal primer paint. Let primer dry at least overnight to make sure it is totally dry.
- 3). Check to make sure your primer has covered any and all areas on the aluminum. Missing any spot, no matter how small, will prevent the exterior paint from adhering to the window's surface.
- 4). Paint the aluminum storm windows with your exterior paint. Let dry for at least 24 hours and, if needed, apply a second coat.
- 5). Install the windows and make sure they all fit. If the paint added any thickness, use a light sanding cloth to help make the storm window fit.
