- 1). Dig the desired driveway location to the depth of 8 inches, using a shovel and wheel barrow. Relocate the dirt to other areas in your yard.
- 2). Compact the dirt in the newly-dug driveway area, using a soil compactor. Roll the soil compactor over the surface, and use a level to ensure it is even.
- 3). Measure the dimensions of the driveway, using a tape measure. Cut plastic porous pavers to the dimensions of your driveway, using a table saw. Porous pavers come in rolls of connected plastic cylinders. These will help to distribute the weight of your vehicles evenly over the surface of the driveway and improve its drainage.
- 4). Roll and connect the plastic porous pavers over the dirt surface of the driveway. Snap the ends of the pavers together until the entire driveway surface is covered.
- 5). Pour self-binding gravel into the holes of the porous pavers and in a three-inch layer over the tops of the pavers. When you drive your car over the self-binding gravel, the gravel will bond together, making a semi-hard surface.
