- 1). Clean the chipped tile with warm, soapy water. Rinse the tile well. Pat dry with a clean cloth.
- 2). Hold a hair dryer over the chipped tile for 15 minutes. This ensures that the chipped area is completely dry before you begin repairing it.
- 3). Cover the surrounding tiles and grout with painter’s tape. This protects the surrounding flooring in the event you make a mistake.
- 4). Apply the primer/sealer to the chipped area with a small paintbrush. Let the primer/sealer sit for two hours. Wash the paintbrush.
- 5). Apply finish paint the same color as the surrounding tile with the paintbrush.
- 6). Mix the epoxy following the instructions on the can. Dab epoxy onto the chipped area with a toothpick until the chipped spot is no longer an indentation but the same height as the surrounding flooring. Let the epoxy set for 24 hours before walking on the repaired area.
- 1). Scrape away the grout surrounding the chipped tile with a tile saw.
- 2). Position a point punch in the center of the tile. Tap the point punch gently with a hammer until the tile cracks.
- 3). Wedge a chisel beneath the crack. Tap the chisel with the hammer until a piece breaks off. Continue this process until the tile is completely gone. Throw away the broken pieces.
- 4). Wedge the chisel beneath any remaining tile adhesive in the hole. Tap the chisel with the hammer and lift away any residual tile adhesive.
- 5). Spread tile adhesive on the back of the replacement tile. Position the tile in the hole, with an even amount of empty space on all four sides. Press the tile firmly into place. Wipe away any excess tile adhesive with a damp cloth.
- 6). Place a heavy object on top of the new tile. Allow it to sit for 24 hours -- giving the tile adhesive time to dry.
- 7). Spread grout across the new tile with a grout float. Let the grout sit for 20 minutes. Wipe the excess grout away with a damp sponge.
