- 1). Click "Start" and select "Run."
- 2). Type "regedit" -- without the quotation marks -- and click "OK."
- 3). Select this registry key: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Dfrg\BootOptimizeFunction."
- 4). RIght-click on "Enable" from the list on the right-hand side of the screen.
- 5). Select "Modify" and change the Y/N value to "Y" to enable the defragment-on-boot option.
