How to Install XP on Compaq Proliant DL380

    • 1). Insert the XP installation CD into your Compaq Proliant DL380's CD drive and restart your computer. Hit any key on your Proliant's keyboard when the black screen containing the "Press any key to boot from CD..." message appears. Hit the "Enter" key on the next screen to begin the installation of XP.

    • 2). Hit the "F8" key on your Compaq's keyboard to confirm that you agree to the "Windows XP Licensing Agreement" that appears. Choose "Unpartitioned Space" as the location you want to install XP on and hit "Enter" to proceed with the installation.

    • 3). Hit "Enter" with the default "Format the partition using the NTFS file system" option selected on the screen that follows. Windows will format the hard drive on your Compaq Proliant DL380 computer. Click the "Next" button when the process finishes and the "Regional and Language Options" screen pops up.

    • 4). Type in your name and organization (optional) on the "Personalize Your Software" screen and click the "Next" button. Type in the 25-character product key that came with your Windows XP installation CD on the screen that follows and hit "Next" to continue. Type in a name for your Compaq Proliant DL380 computer and a password for the XP administrator account. Click "Next" to continue the setup process.

    • 5). Indicate the current date, time and time zone for your location and click "Next" to continue. Click "Next" on the "Network Settings" screen and the "Workgroup or Computer Domain" screen that follows. Click the "OK" button when the "Display Settings" screen appears. Click "OK" when the "Monitor Settings" box pops up to verify that you can read the text on the screen.

    • 6). Click the green arrow icon in the bottom-right corner of the "Welcome to Microsoft Windows" screen that appears. Click the green icon containing two arrows next to the text that reads "Skip" on the "Will this computer connect to the Internet directly, or through a network?" and "How will this computer connect to the Internet?" screens that follow.

    • 7). Click the "Next" icon on the "Ready to activate Windows?" and "Ready to register with Microsoft?" pages. Fill out the information requested on the "Collecting Registration Information" screen to register your copy of Windows XP and click the "Next" icon. Type in a name for the Windows XP account you will use on your Compaq Proliant DL380 and click the "Next" icon. Click the "Finish" icon on the screen that follows and the installation of Windows XP on your Compaq Proliant DL380 computer will be complete.
