How to Install Wood Paneling Around a Tub

    • 1). Remove all hardware in the wall around the tub. Unscrew the faucets and shower head with a Phillips head screwdriver. Hammer away anything bonded to the wall, such as a soap tray or towel hanger; line up a chisel along the caulk holding it in place and strike the chisel with a hammer.

    • 2). Set the paneling in the bathroom and let it sit for six hours so it can adjust to the room temperature. This will prevent the paneling from expanding and allow it to fit properly on the wall. Wipe the surface of the wall with a clean rag and remove any dirt, dust, debris and soap scum from the drywall.

    • 3). Measure and mark the hole locations on the paneling for the faucet and shower head. Cut holes in the paneling with a circular saw to fit over the faucet and shower head. Set all of the paneling up vertically along the wall and mark any cuts necessary to fit around corners. Mark and cut the ends of the paneling off with a circular saw where necessary.

    • 4). Open a tub of liquid nails and dip a trowel into the tub. Spread out the liquid nails over the back of the paneling 1/8-inch thick. Spread it out so it is covering the entire surface of the paneling. Set the paneling on the wall and run your hands over the paneling to press it into place.

    • 5). Apply liquid nails to the rest of the sheets of paneling and install them on the wall just like the first piece was installed. Wait 24 hours for the adhesive to set on the wall and slide a tube of caulk into a caulk gun. Pull the trigger on the caulk gun and run a bead of caulk around the perimeter of the paneling. Wipe away any excess with a clean rag and let it dry for one hour.

    • 6). Attach the faucets and shower head back into on.
