- 1). Measure up 12 inches from the threshold along the hinge side of the barn door frame and down 12 inches from the top of the door frame using a tape measure. Mark each measurement onto the door frame with a pencil. These are the locations for the pintles.
- 2). Screw the lag screw end of the pintles into the door frame at each pencil marking by turning them in a clockwise motion until they are driven fully into the hinge side of the door frame.
- 3). Hold the barn door in the opening of the door frame. Mark the location of the pintles onto the hinge side of the barn door with a pencil.
- 4). Lay the barn door on a work surface with the exterior side facing up. Align one strap hinge with each pencil marking on the hinge side of the door.
- 5). Drive the included mounting screws through the mounting holes in the strap hinges into the door using a screw gun.
- 6). Hold the door up in the door opening. Align the strap hinges with the pintle on the door frame of the barn. Slide the hinges over the pintles so that the door rests on the hinge and pintle assembly.
