- 1). Draw a border for your shadowbox using a pen or pencil. This can be as simple as a rectangle to outline the contents of the box, or as complex as a decorate stencil to accentuate the box's ornate nature.
- 2). Cut out the border with an X-acto knife or similar. Be careful to make the lines smooth, straight and even.
- 3). Cut a piece of medium density foam the same height and width as your box. Cover this piece of foam with a piece of scrap fabric. This fabric can be a solid color or patterned, or even decorated with glitter, paint and other materials.
- 4). Glue the fabric-covered foam into the bottom of the box so that with the border in place, and one only sees the decorative backdrop.
- 5). Hang the box on a wall with a nail or screw, or set it up in a decorative place, such as a mantle or windowsill. Fill the box with objects. You can place anything you want in the box, so be creative so long as they actually fit inside the box.
- 6). Take the objects out of the shadow box and replace them with something new on occasion. This is the beauty of the shadowbox: it can change with your moods and decorative ideas at any time.
