How to Recover a Thinkpad T22

    • 1). Close any currently open programs on the Thinkpad T22. Connect a USB memory device, such as a flash drive or external hard drive, to the USB port on the side of the T22 laptop.

    • 2). Wait for the "AutoPlay" prompt to appear, and select "Open a folder." Drag any data you want to avoid losing in the recovery process into the USB device folder. Close the window. Right-click the USB icon in the notification area at the lower-right end of the screen and choose "Safely Remove Hardware." Unplug the USB device from the T22.

    • 3). Insert the Thinkpad recovery disc, which was included with the T22's original packaging, into the laptop's DVD drive. Open the "Start" menu and select "Restart."

    • 4). Click the "Continue" button when the "Welcome to Rescue and Recovery" screen appears. Select the link labeled "Restore Your System," which is at the left end of the window.

    • 5). Select "OK" when the warning box appears to let you know all current data will be permanently lost. Select the radio button labeled "Restore my Hard Drive to Original" and click "Next." Select "Yes" when a new window appears.

    • 6). Click "Do not save files" and choose "Next." If you haven't yet backed up any data, click "Save Files" and choose "Next." Plug in the USB device and follow the on-screen backup instructions. Click "Next" when done.

    • 7). Select "Next" at the "Restore Factory Contents" window. Hit "OK" and click "Next" twice. Choose "OK" and "Yes" to format the hard drive and restart the Thinkpad T22.

    • 8). Follow the Windows Setup prompts that appear on the screen to create a profile username and password for the new Windows installation on your T22. Click the drop-down boxes and choose your time zone and language. Click "Finish" to access your new Windows installation.
