How to Find the Registry Editor on My Computer With Windows Vista

    Search

    • 1). Click the "Start" icon on the Windows Vista taskbar to open the Start menu.

    • 2). Type "regedit" into the Search field in the lower-left corner of the Start menu.

    • 3). Click "regedit.exe" beneath Programs that appears in the list of search results displayed directly above the Search field on the left side of the Start menu. The Registry Editor program opens on the screen.

    Command Prompt

    • 1). Click the "Start" icon on the Windows Vista taskbar to open the Start menu.

    • 2). Click "All Programs" in the lower-left corner of the Start menu, then click "Accessories" in the list of programs that appears. Click "Command Prompt." The Command Prompt window opens on the screen.

    • 3). Type "regedit.exe" to the right of the command prompt, then press "Enter." The Registry Editor program opens on the screen.

    Run

    • 1). Click the "Start" icon on the Windows Vista taskbar to open the Start menu.

    • 2). Type "run" into the Search field in the lower-left corner of the Start menu.

    • 3). Click "run" beneath Programs that appears in the list of search results displayed directly above the Search field on the left side of the Start menu. The Run program window appears on the screen.

    • 4). Type "regedit" to the right of Open, then click "OK." The Registry Editor opens on the screen.

    Computer

    • 1). Click "Start" on the Windows Vista taskbar, then click "Computer" on the right side of the Start menu. The Computer window opens.

    • 2). Double-click your computer's primary hard drive beneath Hard Disk Drives. Typically, this is the "C" drive.

    • 3). Double-click the "WINDOWS" folder.

    • 4). Double-click "regedit.exe." The Registry Editor program opens.
