- 1). Find the USB port on your computer. Often this port is found on the front or rear part of the tower. If you are not sure what the USB port looks like, try matching the plug with the port--it should be a perfect fit. On laptop computers, you'll generally find the USB port on the side or the back.
- 2). Turn your device off. Plug the end of the USB cord that attaches to the device into the device. For most cameras and phones, this side of the cord is much smaller than the USB port end that plugs into the computer.
- 3). Turn the device on. After a few seconds, your computer should recognize the connection. In most cases, you'll see a pop-up window. Click on the "Transfer" or "Open Folder to View Files" option to begin transferring pictures.
