- 1). Click on the Windows "Start" button to activate the Windows menu.
- 2). Click on "Computer" (or "My Computer") to open a window which will display all the available drives on the local computer.
- 3). Right click on the icon labeled "Local disk (C:)" to activate a pop-up menu which will display a list of options to choose from.
- 4). Click on "Properties" to open the properties menu for the drive.
- 5). Click on the tab titled "Sharing."
- 6). Click on the "Advanced Sharing" button.
- 7). Click inside the box labeled "Share this folder." This will place a check mark in the box and select the necessary fields and buttons on this form that will allow sharing to be enabled.
- 8). In the text box labeled "Share name," enter the name that you wish to give to this shared drive. Make the name something that can be easily remembered.
- 9). In the box labeled "Limit the number of simultaneous users to," choose the maximum number of users you wish to have access to this drive at any one time.

In the text box labeled "Comments," make any notations you wish about this shared drive. The comments made in this box will not be seen by users connecting to the drive. - 11
Click on the "Permissions" button. - 12
On the permissions form check the boxes for allowing or denying users "Full Control," "Change" or "Read" permissions. "Full Control" allows users to read, add, change or delete files from the shared drive. "Read" allows users to only read files on the shared drive. "Change" allows users to read files and make changes to them. - 13
Click "OK" to save the "Permissions" changes. - 14
Click on "OK" to save the "Advanced Sharing" properties. - 15
Click "OK" to save the "Local Disk Properties."
