- 1). Click the Windows XP "Start" button and click "Run." Type "msconfig" in the text box and press "Enter." The configuration utility opens.
- 2). Click the "BOOT.INI" tab. The "BOOT.INI" tab writes to the "BOOT.INI" file, which controls boot options for Windows XP. Remove the check mark next to "/BOOTLOG" and click "Apply." This setting disables Windows XP from writing to a boot file.
- 3). Close MS Config and click the Windows XP "Start" button again. Click "Computer" to open an Explorer window. Double-click the "C" drive to view the files on the root directory.
- 4). Right-click the "bootlog.txt" file and click "Delete." Click "Yes" to confirm that you want to remove the boot log file.
