- Begin by carefully marking the location for the wall brackets. Obtain a clean measurement at the height you want the ceiling to be. From this point use a level to carefully and methodically mark the remaining walls. It is critical for these measurements to be exact and level. Once marked, have a partner help hold the 12-foot sections of wall bracket in place and insert a screw into each wall stud. These studs will normally be on 16-inch centers. Install all of the wall brackets first, being certain to take careful measurements for any odd lengths that will need to be modified.
- Install the main tees, which will run the full length of the room. These will be set on 4-oot centers. Attach one end of the main tee to the wall bracket. Approximately every 3 feet, you will install a hanger wire that will be attached to the main tee, then to an anchor point in the overhead ceiling. Use a level to keep the main tees level, and adjust each hanger wire accordingly. Twist the hanger wires in such a manner so there will be no settling or sagging.
Once the main tees are in place, begin installing the cross tees. These will be 4 feet in length and will be spaced every 2 feet along the main tees. The cross tees will snap into place on the main tee. - With your grid in place, begin installing the ceiling tiles. The grid described will accommodate 2-foot-by-4-foot ceiling tiles. If you wish to use 2-foot-square tiles, you will need to install additional 2-foot cross tees. Install all full ceiling tile panels first. Along the final wall there will likely be a set of tiles that will not be 4 feet in length. These tiles will have to be custom cut to fit. Measure each opening individually, then cut a ceiling tile to match the measurement. Repeat this process until the entire grid has been filled.
