- 1). Spread wall mortar on the bare wall with the smooth side of a notched trowel. Pull a level across the wall surface and amend any discontinuities. Allow to dry for 24 hours.
- 2). Spread thin-set mortar on the wall surface using the notched side of the trowel. Start at the bottom center of the wall surface, working your way up and out. Only spread as much mortar as you will use in 15 minutes.
- 3). Press tiles firmly onto the mortar one at a time. Place one spacer in each tile joint to ensure consistent grout spacing. Adhere masking tape to the finished tiles periodically to prevent shifting.
- 4). Continue laying tile until you reach the wall edges. Measure the remaining space, minus grout space on each side. Cut tiles with tile nippers to fit each edge space, spread mortar on the wall surface and firmly press the tiles in place. Allow all tiles to set for 24 hours.
- 5). Remove spacers and masking tape. Spread grout into the joints using a grout float. Immediately wipe the tile surfaces clean with a damp sponge.
