- 1). Put on your breathing mask to protect your lungs from sawdust and chemicals from the floor finish.
- 2). Sand the entire floor with an electric sander to ensure that the wood does not have anything on its surface that would prevent the finish from bonding to it.
- 3). Use the broom to sweep any wood dust from the floor. Wood dust will interfere with the finish bonding process so be very thorough when sweeping.
- 4). Pour the floor finish into the paint tray, filling the tray with approximately 1 inch of finish.
- 5). Dip the sponge mop into the floor finish and, starting with the far corner of the room, begin to apply the finish to the floor in a thin, even coating. Be sure to start with the far end of the room so that you do not have to step on a finished portion of the floor to apply the finish to an untouched portion. After coating the entire floor allow the finish to dry for 24 hours.
- 6). Apply a second coating of floor finish in the same fashion that the first one was applied and allow it to dry for 48 hours before replacing furniture or walking on the floor's surface.
