- 1). Identify a place on your roof to install the alternative energy solar panels. Choose a location that gets plenty of direct sun exposure. When you have decided on the place, mark the exact spot where the panels are to be installed using chalk or twine.
- 2). Trim branches from surrounding trees that may block sunlight. Clear any other obstruction on the roof.
- 3). Mount the panels on the roof. Install the solar panel mounts on the marked area of the roof. The mounts are always installed on top of the roof rafters, which can be located using a stud finder. Pre-drill holes in the rafters and secure the mounts to the rafters using lag bolts. Now, attach the solar panels to these mounts.
- 4). Wire the solar panels together and connect them to an inverter, which will convert the DC (direct current) produced by solar panels to AC (alternating current). Connect the inverter to the storage batteries and a circuit breaker. Now connect this inverter to the house's fuse box. If you do not have any experience handling intricate electrical wiring, hire an electrician to do the job.
