- 1). Set the depth of the jamb saw. Use the floating flooring material to determine the proper thickness to set the blade from the floor.Go around the room with the jamb saw and cut the jambs and trim around the doors where the floating flooring goes. You need to cut several inches into the baseboard, if there is any, to properly install the floating floor. Clear the subfloor of the sawdust and any other debris using the broom and the vacuum cleaner.
- 2). Hammer eight-penny nails along the floor seams to ensure the floor is adequately nailed to the floor joists. As you nail the floor use the nail set to set any nails protruding from the subfloor to prevent hitting them with the edger and buffer while sanding.
- 3). Use 36 grit and the edger and begin tracing the perimeter of the room to sand the floor along the walls and around doorways.
- 4). Using the edger, trace along the joints where each piece of plywood subfloor meets to sand down the seams. Set any nails you may have missed whenever you run over them with the sander and replace the sandpaper often to ensure an even sanding.
- 5). Install the sandpaper driver and 36 grit sandpaper on the buffer and go over the entire surface of the subfloor. Swing the buffer back and forth to cover the distance as you move across the floor. Be sure to overlap each pass to ensure all parts of the subfloor get sanded. Set any nails you may have missed whenever you run over them with the buffer and replace the sandpaper often to ensure an even sanding.
- 6). Use the broom and vacuum to clean the floor of the dust from sanding. Replace the sandpaper on the buffer and edger with 100-grit sandpaper.
- 7). Repeat steps 3-5 with the edger and buffer using 100-grit sandpaper.
- 8). Use the broom and vacuum to clean the floor of the dust from sanding.
