- 1). Click on the Windows orb logo (or "Start") on the taskbar at the bottom of the desktop to show the Start menu. Click on "Run" from menu to open a dialog box. Type "regedit" in the field labeled "Open"; then click the "OK" button to open the "Registry Editor" window.
- 2). Click on the folders in the left pane to expand or drill down to see more folders in this order: "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" > "Software" > "Microsoft" > "Windows" > "CurrentVersion" > "Policies" > "Explorer." After you click on "Explorer", you will see the contents of that folder in the right pane.
- 3). Right-click in the blank space in the right pane to open a pop-up menu. Choose "New" to expand a submenu, then select "DWORD (32-bit) value" to open a small dialog box.
- 4). Type "NoCDBurning" in the "Value Name" section. Type the number "1" (one) in the "Value Data" section.
- 5). Click the "OK" button to create a new registry entry disabling CD burning.
