How to Troubleshoot an iTunes Installation Problem With Windows XP

    • 1). Click "Start" and "My Computer." Click "Local Disk (C:)" and click the "Documents and Settings" folder. Double-click the folder titled your user name. Double-click the "Local Settings" folder.

    • 2). Click "Tools" and "Folder Options." Click the "View" tab, select "Show hidden files and folders" and click "OK." Double-click the "Local Settings" folder. Right-click the "Temp" folder and select "Delete." Click "Yes" to confirm the deletion. Click "Start," "Turn off Computer" and "Restart." Try to install iTunes again. If you are still having problems, proceed with the next steps.

    • 3). Click "Start" and "Control Panel." Double-click the "Add or Remove Programs" icon. Click iTunes in the list of programs and click "Remove." Go through the onscreen instructions to uninstall iTunes from your computer. Do not restart your computer if you are prompted to. When the installation is finished, you will be returned back to the programs list in Add or Remove Programs. Continue uninstalling QuickTime, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour and Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later) in that order. Restart your computer.

    • 4). Install iTunes again using the installer program downloaded from the Apple website (see Resources). Follow through the onscreen instructions to reinstall iTunes on your computer.
