- 1). Scrub the walls with warm water and a hard bristle brush. The bristle brush will break loose any stubborn calcium deposits and any loose stone from the foundation. After allowing the wall to dry, run your hand across the wall. If any material flakes off, scrub the wall again until material stops breaking off.
- 2). Lay down drop cloths to avoid getting paint on the floor. Tape off the floor joists, floorboards and junction boxes you do not want to get paint onto.
- 3). Mix and pour basement waterproofing paint into a paint tray and apply paint to a paint roller. Use a synthetic fiber paint roller and roll the paint onto the walls. Work slowly. Brick and block is porous, and the paint will soak in quickly. After applying the first coat, apply a second and third until you can no longer see the natural color of the wall.
