- 1). Turn off your Dell laptop and remove the power cable. Close the screen and turn the computer upside down.
- 2). Slide the battery out of its compartment on the underside of the computer. Locate the rectangular hard drive compartment on the bottom of the computer near the side. Consult your user guide if you are having problems locating the compartment, but it should be labeled with a sticker detailing the specifications.
- 3). Remove the screws on the hard drive compartment.
- 4). Pull the hard drive out of the computer by the plastic hard drive cover located on the side of the laptop.
- 5). Press the tabs on the drive cover in to release the old hard drive. Fit the cover over the end of a new drive until the tabs lock in place.
- 6). Slide the hard drive into the compartment as far as it will go. Replace the screws and battery and you are finished.
