- 1). Measure off 16 inches of wire for each clamp you want to make, and cut the wire. Use the marker to put a dot on the wire's halfway point (8 inches). Then make a 90-degree bend in the wire, using the pliers, 1/2 inch away from each side of the halfway mark. Now your wire should look like a squared "U."
- 2). Bend the upright sides of the wire inward at a 90-degree angle, 4 inches down from each end. This will give you a rectangular figure, but two of the wire ends should extend out past the opposite sides.
- 3). Measure an inch from the angle you just made and bend the wire in 90 degrees so that the end is now parallel with the original uprights. Do this for each end of the wire. Finally, turn the last 1/2 inch in on both sides at a 90-degree angle.
- 4). Use the file to smooth the ends of the wire if you don't want your clamp causing any abrasion; you can do this by keeping the file mostly perpendicular to the end and occasionally revolving in slight angles. For a better grip on the materials you want to hold with the clamp, file to a sharp point. Operate the file at a 45-degree angle to the end, and apply pressure from all sides as you move around.
