- 1). Shut down other downloads, Internet browsers and programs that you aren't using while downloading from LimeWire. When you download files from other sources, you are cutting down on the available bandwidth for LimeWire. Also, having other programs running on your computer uses more resources and slows your download times.
- 2). Secure your wireless connection. If your network isn't secured with password protection and encryption, you could be sharing your network with others. If other users are on your network, your LimeWire downloads will go slower.
- 3). Change your LimeWire sharing settings. If you set your account up to where you aren't sharing files with other users, you save all of the computer's resources for yourself. To keep others from accessing your library, change your preferences by clicking on "Preferences" in the top right-hand corner of the LimeWire screen and then selecting the "Sharing" option.
- 4). Switch from dial-up to a DSL or cable connection. Dial-up is far too slow to download files quickly. It may take you hours to download one file through a dial-up connection, when a cable or DSL connection could get that file to you in minutes.
- 5). Accept any updates that LimeWire offers. These updates fix problems that affect LimeWire's performance, so by keeping your program up to date, you are able to download files quicker.
