- 1). Right-click "Computer" and select "Manage" from within Windows 7.
- 2). Click "Storage" to expand the software tree and click "Disk Management" so that you can manage the disk partitions. Right-click the partition onto which you will be placing CentOS and select "Shrink Volume" to bring up the appropriate windows. Enter the number for the amount of space by which to shrink the partition. This will be the amount of space available to CentOS.
- 3). Download the latest version of CentOS from their mirror download page (see Resources). Burn the image to a blank DVD.
- 4). Reboot the computer with the DVD in the drive. Follow the guided prompts during the installation until you reach the location to place CentOS. Select the option "Delete Any Linux Partitions" to make sure that the Windows partition is saved and CentOS uses the remaining space. Select the "Default" installation on the next screen.
- 5). Install GRUB to the Master Boot Record (MBR) when the choice is given. Change the name of "Other" in the menu to "Windows" or "Windows 7," according to your preference. Complete the rest of the installation by choosing which packages you want and rebooting when the installation is complete.
